Fabian J. Tapia is an Associate Faculty at the Department of Oceanography, University of Concepción (UdeC, Concepción, Chile), and Deputy Director at the Center for Oceanographic Research COPAS Sur-Austral. In January 2018, he was appointed as Director of the Masters Program in Oceanography at UdeC.
Dr. Tapia holds a Ph.D. in Biological Oceanography from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (USA). His main research interests lie in the fields of coastal oceanography and ecology. He uses a combination of physical and biological times series to understand how the spatial and temporal variability in oceanographic phenomena on the continental shelf determine the structure and functioning of coastal populations.
Dr. Tapia is involved in undergraduate and graduate teaching in biological oceanography, marine ecology, and statistical methods for time series analysis, as well as mentoring of graduate students at UdeC.
