The article offers information on environmentally friendly anti-fouling system for oceanographic equipment which uses freshwater reserve in order to prevent colonization. Ocean optic sensors designed with shuttered devices in order to isolate the sensors in nutrient-rich environments are mentioned. The use copper-based materials in such system is also discussed
