Alexandre Anesio - Austral Summer Institute

Alexandre Anesio

Lecturer ASI XX

Alexandre M. Anesio is a Professor of Arctic Biogeochemistry. He gained his PhD in 2000 from Sweden and came to the UK as a Marie Curie postdoctoral fellow in 2003, working there for 15 years, before recently moving to Aarhus University, Denmark. He is author in over 100 peer-reviewed papers. He is currently the coordinator of an Innovative Training Network, which includes 13 beneficiaries (H2020-MSCA-ITN-2015) with funding from the EU to investigate microbial processes in Arctic environments. Anesio’s interests combine molecular and biogeochemical approaches to determine microbial functioning in extreme environments. In the past 17 years, AMA has conducted fieldwork in the Arctic, including on the Greenland Ice Sheet to demonstrate the impact of microbial processes on i) albedo, ii) production, accumulation and export of organic carbon and nutrients to downstream ecosystems, and iii) the diversity and biogeochemical cycles of subglacial environments.
