Ocean modeling using the Coastal and Regional Ocean COmmunity Model (CROCO)

Ocean modeling using the Coastal and Regional Ocean COmmunity Model (CROCO)

This course presents an introduction to the use of the ocean numerical model CROCO. With a structure based on ROMS_AGRIF, elements from MARS3D, SYMPHONIE, and NEMO models are gathered to build a Coastal and Regional Community Model (CROCO), which includes non-hydrostatic capabilities, wet/dry cells, nearshore wave-current interactions, and modules to couple CROCO with the atmospheric model WRF or the wave model WW3 using the coupler OASIS. The course will have an introductory level, presenting how CROCO is organized, the existing tools for pre- and post-processing and several examples, including a regional configuration, river input, rip currents, and a basic biology module. This course contributes to the capacity building on numerical tools of the coastal ocean, which can be used wih a focus on physical and biological oceanography.
